To kick off the holiday season, I wanted to share one of my favourite books on Paris with you: Paris in Color by the super talented Nichole Robertson of Little Brown Pen. I first discovered this book earlier this year and fell in love with Nichole's sublime shots of the city. Despite having lived here for several years, Nichole made me see Paris in so many new lights. She has an incredible eye for details that speak to the true spirit of the city. As this season is about the spirit of giving, I am giving away one copy of Paris in Color just in time for Christmas. For a chance to win, all you need to do is:
Step 1 :: Leave a comment below explaining why you'd like to win a copy of this book.
Step 2 :: Visit, read, and comment on 3 other posts in the Little Pieces of Lights blog.
Giveaway closes on Sunday 9 December at 11pm Paris time (GMT + 8 hours). Entries are accepted from all around the world and the winner will be chosen based on the responses and comments left. (Don't worry, Disqus will track all your comments, so no need to tell me where you've left them!)
BONNE CHANCE !!

Omg! The absolute perfect Christmas gift for oneself! It would be oh-so great to have this beauty by my bedside and read it before I sleep. That way I could always have Paris dreams.
ReplyDeleteI spent COUNTLESS hours at the prefecture in the cold rain. Miss you! - sure you can guess who
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful book... I'd love to win it! Even at its prettiest, Paris can be a very monochrome city (especially now), it's nice to have a visual reminder of its many colors.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book because it would be the perfect thing to browse through on rainy days when I miss Paris.
ReplyDeleteI am a silent admirer of your blog, who reads and does not comment..:-) Your blog helped me plan our trip to Paris in August and since then I have been visiting regularly just to see and read about the city that enchanted us so much. I would love to win this book as a reminder of the awesome holiday we had as a family this year!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Paris is such a beautiful city! I only spent a few days there years ago and have been dying to go back! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! I love your NY blog btw - I wish I had something like it to read when I was living there. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the kind words, May. And I'm really glad that you commented this time! Please don't be shy about leaving your thoughts on my blog in the future; I love to get feedback from my readers. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, that is so true about Paris being quite monochrome! I'm secretly hoping it will somehow magically change before I return at the end of the month :)
ReplyDeleteThat's such a lovely thought, Mary Grace. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this divine colour explosion photobook of Paris because I have been to Paris
ReplyDeletetwice
now and wont be able to go back for many years as my elderly mother is
moving in with me in a week and I am in DC right now to pick her up. I
love reading your blog, especially when you went to Buenos Aires which
took me back to my trip there. I am living vicariously now through your
posts due to my responsibility to my lovely mother to provide her a
safe and happy place to live, but I don't want to loose my connection to
these wonderful cities which I was so blessed to experience. Thanks
for sharing your photos and insights with all of us in the reader
sphere!
Hi Susan. Your message truly touched me and I think your mother is the luckiest woman in the world to have such a loving daughter. I'm honoured that my photographs and writings keep the connection to these cities alive for you, and perhaps one day you will have the opportunity to return to them! Until then, I will do my best to show you as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteSimply want this book because I love Paris, and this blog,
ReplyDelete"Paris is a poem pressed into service as a city.
Bonjour! I want to share beautiful paris on real paper with my 2 year old daughter ... Merci ... Eve @ My Little French Shop on Etsy
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you for this lovely giveaway! I would love a copy of this book because it is really well done, I love photography and Nicole is a great photographer :) Cheers,
ReplyDeleteAnna
I would love to win this book because I've been reading Nichole's blog for years and ordering prints and calendars. Just found your blog and love it!
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you! (I'm not entering the contest, even though I'd love to read the book one day...I just don't have any space in my apartment for books unfortunately!)
ReplyDeleteJ' adore Paris!! The people, the food, the culture & history and the energy that the city has!! I've visited twice and got engaged on the second trip in Nov '11 & it was magical (just married in OCT)!! I dream of moving to France with my family!!
ReplyDeleteeven though I am lucky enough to live in Rome, A little visual holiday to Paris would be a wonderful winter treat.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a sweet thought. I hope you will be able to share beautiful Paris in real life one day with her too.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I'm a big fan of Nichole's blog and prints as well!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that space is the constraining reason for you in this case :) Have you gotten a Kindle btw? I thought I would hate it but after my friends bought me one for my birthday in August, I have grown to love it! Super convenient especially for people like us who travel so much. I still like my actual paper books - the feel, the smell, everything about them! - but I think it's great to make space in your life for a Kindle also.
ReplyDeleteOOO LA LA.....Tres Jolie! Traveling to Paris was on my bucket list so I saved my money for two years and got to go in 2009. Three years later I am still reveling in the memories. Last year I unfortunately lost my job and am sooooo happy that I have those beautiful memories of Paris and the lavender fields in Provence to sustain me at times. This book looks like a treasury of Paris beauty!! Good luck to moi and hugs to you for your generosity.
ReplyDeleteWell technically I have space in my apartment, but I know I won't be able to pack it when I eventually leave Paris. And I do have Kindle (for iPad), but it's just not the same :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so wonderful that you live in Rome! I really love this city; it's one of my favourites in Europe. Paris is so close by; you could always come for a real holiday too :)
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda. I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your job. I hope that you will find something soon! I know that jobs are tough to come by these days, but keep your head high and your heart strong. I'm glad to hear that you have such wonderful memories of Paris to keep you going.
ReplyDeleteShe is such a talented photographer, I agree!
ReplyDeleteThat's so lovely that you got engaged in Paris - it'll definitely always hold a special place for you :)
ReplyDeleteI have given this book as a gift many times, but don't have it myself. I would love to have a copy.
ReplyDeleteParis is the home city of my boyfriend, I adore it and find it the most beautiful city in the world!
ReplyDeleteThis book intrigues me because even though gorgeous, Paris has this overall not so colorful look due the buildings' facade, I would love to see where these amazing photos were taken, the colors are as vivid as they were from Latin American cities! It's exactly due to the overall gray Parisian look that these bits of color pop out so impressively! Gorgeous book, it'd make me feel a little better when I miss my boyfriend and to dream that some day not too late we can both be there together everyday...
[I have commented on several posts, let me know if you can locate them, please. I will keep browsing and commenting because I love your blog and I'm, so happy to have found it!! Thank you, Little Brown pen!!]

I'm a lover of color & photography. This gorgeous gem of a book has both those qualities combined with spirit of wanderlust.
ReplyDeleteParis is a city I have not been too, yet, it is one that I long to see & experience. If I win a copy of this book, I can take an adventure to the city of light.
Amazing book! I have bought a number of other things from Little Brown Pen, and find myself going back again and again just to look. She is incredibly talented and would love that for a coffee table!

I would love to win this book because I just experienced Paris for the first time this November and I fell in love with the city. I've been trying to find a job in the City of Lights so I can partake in the love, light and color of Paris all year long!
ReplyDeleteMy love affair with France started when I was 16 years old. I had an opportunity to go to France with my 10th grade high school French class. It was my absolute first time on a plane and along with being nervous about flying, the idea of stepping off the plane from NY and being in Paris was unbelievable. Well, the feeling never left me and I have been back four times since. I love the architecture, the people, the countryside, the food and wine...it's just a beautiful part of this world.
ReplyDeleteFrom the northeast of North America; I've been to Paris several times since my first visit in 1970! I always see something I had not previously seen. Wish I had and could spoend more time there. Would love and cherish to book and all the images!
ReplyDeleteJ'aime Paris... What else can I say? I have studied there, painted there and would live there if I could. This book is truly a treasure, and I would love to add it to my library. Joyeux Noel!
ReplyDeleteHi Despina! No worries, I can locate all of your other comments; thanks so much for taking the time to read through my posts and being thoughtful in your responses. Have a read through some of my replies to you - especially on the Sorbonne - and let me know if there is any other information I can help you out with! Btw, where are you based if your boyfriend is in Paris?
ReplyDeleteShe is indeed incredibly talented! I love her prints especially.
ReplyDeleteHi Nik Snacks! Are you still in Paris job-hunting right now? What kind of work are you looking for? I have gone through the exact same experience so I can definitely empathise with the difficulty of the job search in this city!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful description of your first time in Paris. :)
ReplyDeleteEven after 3 years of living in Paris, I still see something that I have not yet previously seen! I think this is one of the key qualities of all great cities everywhere!
ReplyDeleteJoyeux Noël to you as well, Rene!
ReplyDeleteThis saying is beautiful; thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteI think I've given away 10 copies of this book to friends already! It's a lovely present idea most definitely. :)
ReplyDeleteI have loved Little Brown Pen for a long time and always loved her photos of Paris. I'm a complete Francophile and would LOVE to have a copy of her book. Thanks for the chance! lamaisonboheme at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI agree, her photos of Paris are wonderful! I love your blog btw; it's full of such beautiful things. :)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I look at this book, I want to go to Paris even more - and it inspires me in my own photography!
ReplyDeleteIt does the same for me in terms of photography. Btw, do you post any of your photographs online? If so, I'd be interested to see them!
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday! I'd love to start a blog like yours!
ReplyDeleteIf you already have a collection of photographs, you should start one as soon as you are inspired to. :) And start off simply! When I started this blog, I promise you, I had no real concept of what I wanted to write about or take photos of. I simply wrote and photographed whatever inspired me. I also had no concept of blog formatting and just threw things on the page in the easiest manner possible! My blog was pretty raw at the beginning to say the least (just look at the first Eiffel Tower photo I took - lol). Over time, I figured out what I wanted to write about and photograph, and learned how to present things more closely to the way I would want to read them. And then it was literally only a week ago when I did a massive overhaul of this blog's design. I think the great thing about blogging is that it's an evolving project, and anyone can start one as simply as possible then grow it to something that really captures their creative spirit. So I guess it's a long way of saying go for it! I'm sure it will be wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteWas in Paris once, but not for long. Would be nice to see what I missed.
ReplyDeleteI currently live in Greece. I read your post thoroughly, very informative and helpful, I was wondering if you had any information about a bit more economical choices than the Sorbonne, regarding a French learning program :-) And also if there are any scholarship options? In any case, may I dare email you sometime if I have a more specific question? :-) Thanks ever so much, fantastic blog -and I mean it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why my previous answer disappeared, must have done sth wrong :-) I wrote you that I currently live in Greece and that your post was indeed very helpful. I was wondering if I could email you sometime for more information...
