This image is taken from Martin Scorsese's magnificent 2011 movie, Hugo. I've just finished watching it (for the second time this week) and am simply enchanted by the fantastical scenes of 1930s Paris in the winter. This historical adventure drama was originally in 3D, but even on HD television today, the images are still quite spellbinding. The story is based on Brian Selznick's novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, about an orphan boy who lives alone in Gare Montparnasse where he spends his days winding up the station's clocks and trying to fix a mechanical man automaton that his father had left to him. A mystery about the automaton quickly unfolds and leads Hugo into an unexpected adventure. If you haven't watched it yet and are in the mood for a cosy & heartwarming adventure film, make sure to check it out. It's one of my favourite recent films involving Paris.
Do you have any favourite films involving Paris (recent or old)?

that image is stunning..I love that movie!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite Paris films is Midnight in Paris..& of course Amelie!
Ah yes! Those two are on my list of favourites as well :)
ReplyDeleteLe Divorce with Naomi Watt and Kate Hudson is a great 'Paris' movie.
ReplyDeleteI assume you've seen Amélie Poulain...? Well, I guess it is not set during winter though. Lots of war movies are set in the winer in Paris, mostly old French movies.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like France! We should exchange our passports, would make immigration much easier, wouldn't it! Although I am now a Canadian citizen ;-)
Yes, I have seen Amélie Poulain numerous times! And other movies that Audrey Tautou was in (for better or for worse). :) If you have any other favourite, lesser known (French?) movies that I may not have yet watched, I would be interested to learn about them. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the timely reminder to watch "Hugo". I haven't seen it yet and it sounds perfect for these grey Parisian evenings!
ReplyDeleteA lesser known movie that's set in Paris is "French Kiss" with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. It's a kind of silly film that was made in 1995 but it's one that I've watched many times. It's good lighthearted fun.
Oh nice! I've never seen French Kiss before, so I will check that out sometime this week! Thanks for the recommendation :)
ReplyDeleteAmelie was my favorite. I also liked the movie, Paris, Je t'aime. And yes, Midnight in Paris was a beautiful one too.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a big fan of Paris Je T'Aime! And yes, Midnight in Paris was indeed beautifully shot.
ReplyDeleteLa Traversée de Paris comes to mind, it's a classic!
ReplyDeleteIt has to be Midnight in Paris. I didn't want the movie to end!!! Thanks for the recommendation. The kids and I love watching movies where we can see once again the places we visited.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great movie indeed! I watched it with my French partner in a small London theatre when it first came out and we both loved it (the expat and the local). :)
ReplyDeleteRatatouille!! :)
ReplyDeleteHave to say The Devil Wears Prada. Something about going to such a beautiful city for work seems like an oxymoron. The cinematography made it out to be amazing, with the lights, music and scenery. Haven't seen Hugo yet, will have to watch!

That was such a cute movie!! I loved it :)
ReplyDeleteAh I wouldn't have thought of The Devil Wears Prada but you're right: a huge portion happens in Paris. That was a hilarious film too. :)
ReplyDeleteSo many Paris films so little time! I love HUGO.
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Paris and The Devil wears Prada run to close to my favorites, not to mention both! Going to see HUGO very soon! Thank You.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays,
June
I am also a big fan of Midnight in Paris! It's one of those films I could watch again and again.
