Well, not exactly. More like "banished to air mattress", since that is where I am currently typing this from. Alas the winter bug I have been fighting for the last week got the better of me on Wednesday when I finally took a sick day and stayed at home, in hopes of getting better before Friday (today), at which point I had planned to take the Eurostar out to London to see ♥, my New Yorker best friend who flew in from Hong Kong, and my other good friends in the city ... none of which, aside from the sick day, actually happened.
Why? Because, as the doctor who diagnosed me this afternoon said, it turns out that I don't just have the regular winter flu (that would be too easy) but also mild bronchitis, a throat infection, and (the best part) a vocal chord infection. Yes. Such things exist. I woke up this morning not being able to muster more than a whisper. And when the doctor ushered me out with no less than 4 antibiotics & medications, he also instructed me not to utter A Single Word until Monday... I don't think I've been this quiet since I physically developed vocal chords in my mother's stomach.
So there you go. No Eurostar tonight, no weekend in London, no seeing NY Best Friend Who Now Lives in HK. Instead it was an exciting night of soup & drugs for me, topped off with more of my new addiction called Online Furniture Stalking.
Which brings me back full circle to the bed ... because I finally bought one! And it arrives in my new home on the 5th of February! (Until then, it's a BHV air mattress for me.) In any case, I am super excited for my new bed to come, and even more excited about the thought of finally sleeping in one again. As part of my non-Ikea online furniture sales hunt on Maisons du Monde, I have also picked up a sweet grey Camille dresser to go with my old Camille wardrobe, as well as this gorgeous vintage Saint-Remy-inspired dining table with bench seating for eight! (Everything pictured above; photos taken from Maisons du Monde.) I can't wait for this massive dining room table to come so I can start cooking big group dinners for friends and loved ones - which, honestly, to someone like me who grew up in a bustling house with 4 kids, is really what a home is all about. As you can see, I am slowly trying to pull together a place that is cosy, romantic, vintage, and a little bit Provençal countryside all at once. I can't wait to show you the final product!
In the meantime, good night from underneath the covers of my air mattress. Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel ok enough to walk around a little bit and share some photos of my new neighbourhood with you. ♥

Oh Honey. I can totally relate. It is no fun being stuck in bed..or air mattress! Hang in there. You'll be better soon! Hug! Connie*

ReplyDeleteAw thanks! I haven't been sick this long neither. I think I am starting to get better with the antibiotics that the doctor finally recommended for me.
ReplyDeleteIt is slowly!!! I promise I am only getting a bed + dresser + table + bench for now. :) For sleeping, putting away my clothes, and eating - I figured I'd cover off the super basics for the time being. :)
